You can see in this example, the delivery times can vary from 16th December to the fastest quote which is 9th of December (the next day after this post is published on 8th December). To finalise the booking, the next step is to enter more accurate the shipment details, such as the full pick-up and delivery address, the name of the sender and receiver any special instructions for the pickup and delivery to be as seamless as possible.

The information you provide about your shipment in our portal means you must be clear and concise, this is especially important when declaring Commercial or Residential pickup and delivery. Given the complexity and challenge of picking up parcels and cartons from a residential location, whether it be a single storey house, townhouse or multi-storey apartment block, carriers and couriers implement a surcharge to cater for the time it takes a driver to park the vehicle in a safe manner and access the building, collect the package and get back to their vehicle safely.

That’s why we built into the freight platform and instant quote function which allows you to select the Pickup and Delivery location type. Depending on which one you choose, will affect the final price paid for the shipment. Just to again remind you – surcharges such as pick and delivery to a residential address are added by the carrier and service provider, not One World Courier.

Manual Handling Fees for Pickup and Delivery

Another feature built into the One World Courier platform is to run a check for any additional surcharges such as a ‘manual handling fee’. This fee was again created by service providers who set out to take some of the pressure off their drivers by allowing them more time to move heavier parcels, boxes and cartons from the pickup location to their vehicle. The same applies when delivering a package. Heavy objects may require a two-person life or a trolley to deliver the package. Given there is an increasing awareness of Health and Safety in the Workplace, these extra charges can make a significant difference to the final price.

A carrier offering a pickup and delivery service may accept provide an instant freight quote on our platform, but then add these extra surcharges once they have started to move the shipment. At times, there are instances where the One World Courier customer support team and our own accounts staff have to raise a claim and query a surcharge. This is all part of the shipping process and One World Courier are not the only service provider to have to query the final invoice total from a carrier. However, this is one of the services we do provide, monitoring shipments and invoicing and stepping in to help our customers when they need it.
